Super Austerity Machine

Super Committee or Super Congress members operate the Austerity Machine joyously screwing America while being showered with gold from lobbyist in the heavens.

The United States Congress Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, aka the Super Committee, aka the Super Congress, is a one of the outcomes of the debt-ceiling "crisis" orchestrated to distract U.S. citizens from the lack of jobs, rising cost of living and rampant corporate/government corruption. The Super Committee will provide an opportunity for lobbyists to focus all their influence on a smaller number of legislators. Given the fact that Republicans all vote in lock-step, only one Democrat is needed to hand over total victory. The goal of the Super Committee it to make budgetary recommendations for legislation to be voted on by Congress as a whole. According to Wikipedia, "The committee's recommendations would then be put to a vote by Congress in a simple up or down vote, without any amendments or House 'majority of the majority' blocks or Senate filibusters possible, by December 23, 2011."

Cartoon of F-104G cockpit - NOT to scale!

Using the excellent color photos from the Verlinden "Lock On" book, and the manual pages, and other cockpit reference books (Cold War Cockpits..) this is a handy reference cartoon for the model builder who is painting an F-104G or TF-104G or F-104S cockpit.
Basic color is light gray, with some dark gray blocks, a very dark gray arc at the top of the radar 'scope. Various toggle switch covers are red, and the armament selector switch on the lower left panel. A number of pull handles are yellow with black stripes. My scanner doesn't 'get' red, so I touched that up, and as long as I was at it, I fixed a few other minor faults and omissions. To get a good yellow, I went pointillist and mixed dabs of two different "web safe" yellows. This doesn't mean for the model builder to mix dots of color, just use a good safety handle yellow / orange-yellow. I'd originally drawn the right side console in the wrong too close to the center line, so I clipped it out and moved it over, when meant I had to fill the hole it had been in... long, dumb, story, but I had fun.
As the picture shows, the top of the glare shield is a piece of curved metal painted medium gray, with a mysterious dark blue HUD/gunsight in the center. Ahead of that is an olive drab canvas cover that the mechanics can remove to get behind the instrument panel. Just like for the radar intercept station (backseat) of an F-14. For a nonstructural cover, cloth with snaps has a lot of advantages over metal or plastic- cheap cheap cheap being only the first!

Until I make a blank one to color-in, just download this and unsaturate the colors to make one to color yourself.
